Susan and Morgan Tsvangirai 2004
We all read about the wife of the Zimbabwe prime minister, who was killed in a head-on collision with a truck carrying AIDS supplies driven by a Zimbabwean, who, in the first articles on the subject, was reported to have been contracted by the United States government.
That detail doesn't seem to appear in the newer versions of the story. Here's the quote that's no longer being quoted.
"A U.S. Embassy official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the official spokesman was not immediately available, said Saturday that the truck involved was transporting medicine for AIDS patients donated by the U.S. government. It was driven by a Zimbabwean contracted by the United States."
Obviously, under president George W. Bush our country multiplied humanitarian funds to Africa by a huge amount, including a lot o' money for As I Die Slowly. So much that if there's a truck cruising through Zimbabwe, it's probably got AIDS medicine from America.
But in this suspicious death, there are only a few characters involved. Tsvangirai, the new prime minister. Mugabe, the "destroyer," president, from the opponent party. And the the truck, aka us- and reportedly british-purchased.
" Susan was reportedly flung out of the car as it rolled over and landed on top of her. Rescuers found her 15 metres from the wrecked vehicle, mortally wounded with serious internal injuries and fractures to both legs. "
So basically.
a) Why would U.s. participate in overseas assasination attempt one month after a peace coalition?
B)we all know our country is involved in corrupt shit that we don't know about.
c)it is not implausible or paranoid to think that the u.s. is assassinating people in africa and doing favors for psychos like mugabe. dwight eisenhower and the cia shot patrice lumumba to death and put mobutu in power in the congo 50 years ago.
Ultimately the sad part is that Susan and Morgan went through a lot together. he got arrested, beaten up, tortured, attacked, hung out a window, and she probably thought he was going to die all the time, and he probably did too. sick irony of life that lets her get crushed by an SUV instead. and given how far morgan has gone in Zimbabwe, through decades of hardship and unrelenting opposition, I'm sure she made a lot of that happen since their 1978 marriage. the wheel behind the wheel, you know.
"""""Just last month, Susan Tsvangirai praised the power sharing agreement telling the BBC that the past decade had been an “endurance test” for her husband and his Movement for Democratic Change colleagues.
“People went through hell, but they stuck to their ideals to seek change through democratic means,” she said. “This was a struggle that we endured with MDC cadres, activists, supporters and peace-loving Zimbabweans."""""""""""""

Leaving the hospital
In other news, I saw watchmen. It wasn't as good as the book -- the small changes to the plot weren't bad, but they somehow managed to pick the few moments of sublety that brought the story together and then change those. whereas dozens of throwaway scenes were preserved and re-done panel by panel. Even though it was so long and slow, I liked it, but the aspect I just described made many scenes literally unbearable for me. Missing the woods for the trees. Luckily my friends liked it, which proves what I said - do NOT read the book first.
Upcoming post. Zack Snyder: Ketman-esque, evil, incredibly sickly and darkly ironic devious genius who is trying to destroy american culture with a spiritual disease from the inside of their own minds?

u know what? i didn't have a problem with the pacing. but you're right about them preserving "throwaway scenes." they glazed over the whole "alien abduction" part of the original plot and the extent of media coverage, but included all these useless scenes with fauxnixon and that long-ass sex scene (altho that chick is really hot).
what made it for me was how faithfully they portrayed nite owl and rorschach. fuckin. bad. ass.
i will shortly respond to your fbook message.
